Danièle Sauvageau is one of the most influential leaders in women’s hockey, with a career that spans coaching, player development, and professional management. Born in Québec, she rose through the coaching ranks and became a central figure in advancing the women’s game in Canada. Sauvageau played a crucial role in the growth of high-performance women’s hockey programs and helped shape pathways for young athletes across the country.

Internationally, she is best known for serving as head coach of Team Canada’s women’s national team, guiding the program to its historic first Olympic gold medal in 2002. She also contributed to Canada’s success at multiple world championships and earlier Olympic appearances, establishing herself as a respected strategist and motivator. Her leadership extended beyond national teams, including becoming the first woman to coach in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and helping to build the University of Montreal Carabins women’s hockey program.

With the launch of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), Sauvageau took on a major executive role as General Manager of PWHL Montreal, shaping the franchise’s identity, roster, and culture. Her long list of honors includes induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder category, along with several national awards recognizing her groundbreaking impact on the sport.
