Gwyneth Philips -

Gwyneth Philips is an American goaltender from Athens, Ohio, currently playing for the Ottawa Charge in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played her college hockey at Northeastern Huskies, where in her final season she was named national goaltender of the year after posting an outstanding save percentage and goals-against average. By the end of her NCAA career, she had established herself among the top netminders in collegiate women’s hockey, earning First‑Team All‑American honors and other conference-level accolades.

Philips was selected 14th overall in the 2024 PWHL Draft, becoming the first goaltender picked that year. In her rookie PWHL season she seized the starting crease when opportunities arose and delivered standout performances. In January 2025 she recorded her first PWHL shutout, becoming the first rookie goaltender in league history to do so. Over the regular season she posted a strong record, and in the playoffs she elevated her game — starting all eight of Ottawa’s postseason games, posting a superb save percentage and goals‑against average, and earning the playoff MVP award. Despite Ottawa falling short in the final, her work between the pipes drew widespread admiration.

On the international front, Philips has also broken through to senior-level competition. She was named to the U.S. national team roster for the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship, making her debut at the top level of women’s international hockey. Her blend of calmness under pressure, quick reflexes, and consistency has positioned her as one of the most promising young goaltenders in North American women’s hockey.
