Sophie Jaques -

Sophie Jaques is a Canadian professional ice hockey defender playing for the Vancouver Goldeneyes in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). A dynamic and impactful blue-liner, Jaques brings elite skating, puck-moving ability, and championship experience to Vancouver’s inaugural roster. She joined the league after being selected tenth overall in the inaugural PWHL Draft and quickly established herself as one of the top defenders in the game, earning a spot on the PWHL All-Rookie Team during her first professional season. Her strong two-way play and hockey IQ make her a key presence on both the power play and penalty kill.

Before turning pro, Jaques enjoyed a decorated collegiate career at Ohio State University, where she won a national championship and was recognized with the Patty Kazmaier Award as the top player in women’s college hockey. Her standout seasons also included leading NCAA defenders in scoring and earning conference player of the year honors, reflecting her rare offensive instincts from the back end. Internationally, she has represented Canada at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, contributing to her country’s success on the world stage.

In the PWHL, Jaques continued her rise by winning back-to-back Walter Cup championships with the Minnesota Frost and being named a finalist for Defender of the Year before signing a three-year contract with the Goldeneyes. Known for her leadership and competitive drive, she combines experience, skill, and a winning pedigree that anchors Vancouver’s defense as the team looks to compete for championships.
