Theresa Schafzahl is an Austrian defenseman who has established herself as one of Europe’s most accomplished players and a rising presence in professional women’s hockey. Born in Vienna, Schafzahl developed through Austria’s national programs before moving to North America to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Vermont. There, she became a cornerstone of the Catamounts’ blue line, known for her powerful skating, offensive instincts, and ability to log heavy minutes against top competition.

During her collegiate career, Schafzahl emerged as one of the most productive defensemen in the NCAA, regularly ranking among national leaders in scoring from the back end. She earned multiple conference and national recognitions, including honors as one of the top defensemen in Hockey East, and served as a leader for Vermont throughout her career. Her combination of size, puck-moving ability, and offensive creativity made her a highly sought-after talent as women’s professional hockey expanded.
